As another beautiful New Hampshire summer begins to wind down, fall is right around the corner. This is one of my favorite times of year in the Lakes Region. The crisp mornings, comfortable afternoons and colorful mountain views make it a wonderful season to slow down, spend time with family and friends and enjoy a relaxing getaway.
There are plenty of ways to experience the outdoors during your visit. Steele Hill Resort has more than five miles of hiking trails where you can enjoy the changing foliage without leaving the property. You can also take a scenic drive through the Lakes Region or head north toward the White Mountains for some spectacular views. Early fall is also a great time to get out on the water, when temperatures are still comfortable and the lakes are a little quieter.
Fall in New Hampshire would not be complete without a visit to a local orchard or farm stand. You can pick fresh apples, enjoy warm cider donuts, bring home a homemade pie or find the perfect pumpkin to bring home for your front porch. Fair season begins around Labor Day weekend and continues into October, with agricultural exhibits, live entertainment, local crafts, amusement rides and plenty of classic fair food. If you have never attended a New Hampshire county fair, I highly recommend adding one to your fall plans.
